100 Years Celebration

Last Wednesday was a fabulous evening where the 5 Rotary clubs in East Gippsland came  together to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia.  Congratulations to Peter Sindrey for bringing together a wonderful night.  Our club at last had the opportunity to present Marie Graham a Paul Harris Fellow for her great work with the Tabitha Foundation and house building program in Cambodia

Dear Jeff and the Rotary Club of Lakes Entrance,

I want to convey my humble thanks for the Paul Harris Fellow recognition by the Rotary Club of Lakes Entrance.  It was very much a shock (!) and I am very aware of how special this recognition is.

I really don't feel that I deserve recognition because I enjoy the Cambodia trip so much and I feel like I get the most rewards (and I will argue that there are many people much more worthy than me), but I was very honoured that the work done in Cambodia and all of the teams that have built houses in Cambodia were highlighted.  It really is a special project and I thank the Rotary Club of Lakes Entrance for their generous support over so many years.

Yours sincerely,
Marnie Graham

Lions and Men's Shed are the Winners

This week we very much enjoyed our annual evening of Bowls against the Lions Club and Men's Shed. It was wonderful for Bill and Judy Degnam (District Governor Elect) and Irene's sister Eunice to  join our teams , but it was not enough to get us over the line.

The real winner was the friendship and enjoyment of socialising with the Lions Club and Men's Shed . in 2022 we will schedule the event in February during daylight saving time.

After the game.

This week we have a Board meeting to finalise disbursements for 2020/21 and we will be back at the Central on the 12th May

Stay Safe

DG Mark's letter to our Cluster
Hello and greetings from the District Governor, Mark Humphries
Firstly, it is disappointing that both Linda and I are unable to attend this function tonight. As you can imagine there are many activities happening across the country and especially here in Victoria.
Rotary District 9820 has had a long and proud history approximately 90 years of making a difference in our great part of the world.
Most recently the savage fires that devastated our State have shown Rotarians truly are people of action and people that change lives. We both had the opportunity to visit in the region recently, looking over some of the devastated areas. Isn’t mother nature amazing! How quickly things change, lovely, lush green pastures, amazing re growth on trees. It all makes it look idyllic.
However, this is only skin deep, one only has to look behind the fresh regrowth to see the devastated trunks of the trees and how thin the undergrowth really is. It will take years and years to fully recover.
Words cannot express how humbled I was, when I walked into a bakery in Orbost, the person serving said, ‘Oh, you’re from Rotary……. Thank you’
Imagine how that makes me feel! I did nothing, I was not involved on the ground, I have not directly been in contact with the people, businesses, or the community, but they say thank you to me!
For me, that says, YOU GUYS are amazing, you saw a need, you worked together and created something great. You were first on the ground, you are still there working today. Not only have your shown the community the power of teamwork, you have shown them the power of Rotary. For that I say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
East Gippsland cluster of Rotary District 9820 is more than the recent fire relief activities, you are a community of people who have had a very long and proud history, over 70 years. Doing amazing things in and around the local communities that you serve. How many Peoples Lives have you changed over the years?
Today for me marks a milestone, 100 years of service, however I also see today as something more important. Today marks the beginning of the next 100 years. You have left a legacy for the past 100 years. What impact are you going to have for the next 100? That is the question.
I know that you will be there, you will continue to work as a team in supporting your communities and helping to grow the impact of what Rotary can achieve.
Thank you for putting this event together to help celebrate this important milestone. Linda and I are keen to visit again. Keep on doing ROTARY, People of Action
